The future of our community is an undeniable reflection of the quality of education received by the student of today. Given this fact, the Hereford Independent School District is committed to seeing that each and every student receives a quality education and will be able to make positive contributions to our community and region in the future.
The school system has consistently performed above expectations in virtually all categories – whether in the academic or extra-curricular arena. Even a cursory glance at the accomplishments of those within the school system will bear out the fact that H.I.S.D. is a quality school system with highly motivated and well-trained staff members.
In order to meet the needs of a diverse student population of over 3500 students the school system employs in excess of 550 people and has a total budget exceeding $25,000,000. The district is governed by seven elected members serving three-year terms. Each member is an elected representative from a particular geographical area of the school system. Elections are held each May as necessary.
Elementary Education
The Hereford Independent School District has five elementary campuses, Pre-K through 5th grade, with an average of 330 students per campus. Many educational opportunities are provided to see that each child is successful.

One cannot truly appreciate H.I.S.D.’s elementary campuses without taking the time to visit them.
Hereford Junior High
Hereford Junior High serves more than 850 students in grades 6th-8th. Teaching "Teams" of academic core teachers are assembled and trained to provide a quality educational experience for each child, and act as a responsive partner in the educational process of the parent(s). Hereford Junior High students consistently score at or above the state norms on the TAKS test. The programs and opportunities at Hereford Junior High are designed to develop each child to his/her highest potential. The unique need of middle level students are met through developmentally appropriate courses which include instruction and support in the areas of Gifted and Talented, Pre-Advanced Placement, Accelerated Instruction, Credit Accrual, Summer School, Tutorials, English as a Second Language, Special Education, and Dyslexia Instruction. In addition a wide variety of elective and interscholastic activities are available to complement and celebrate the diversity of our students. In addition to normal core classes further opportunities and activities exist, promoting the versatility of our students.

Hereford High School
The 1000+ students in grades 9th – 12th are offered a myriad of opportunities academically as well as through activities outside the classroom. Hereford High School makes every attempt to prepare students for entry into higher level education or the workforce. In addition to the regular core courses, HHS offers Advanced Placement and Dual Credit courses. Students also have the opportunity to take a variety of career and technology courses such as welding, automotive technology, home economics, meat processing, health occupations, cosmetology, law enforcement etc. The school system adheres to the belief that an education is gained not only in academic endeavors, but also through student participation in organizations and UIL activities. Programs at the Stanton Learning Center are designed to meet the specific needs of the eligible children and to improve the educational opportunities of children that may not be successful in a traditional setting.
